Vote for Squibbons, Megasquid, and Rainbow Squid

A while back Squidblog brought you news of the Giant Land Squid, as presented on Discovery Channel’s Future is Wild.

It now seems that my original post was incorrect. The creature in the picture is not a Giant Land Squid, but is a Flish. The correct details are all on this website, where you can vote for “the funkiest futuristic creature in 200 million years.”

Ok, we know this isn’t exactly the newest news. The site has been up for quite a long time. But even so it still seems to be accepting votes. With that in mind Squidblog is happy to put our full support behind these prominent contenders:

  1. SquibbonsSquibbon
    Habitat: Northern Forest
Futuristic Factoid: Tree-swinging squid exhibit the highest form of intelligence since humans inhabited the Earth.
  2.

  3. MegasquidMegasquid
    Habitat: Northern Forest
Futuristic Factoid: This 8-ton creature has no skeleton and must balance its weight on eight muscular legs.
  4.

  5. Rainbow SquidRainbow Squid
    Habitat: Global Ocean
Futuristic Factoid: The largest creature in the ocean is this 120-foot-long squid that can change colors at will.
  6.

Out of these three it is difficult to go past the Squibbon as the funkiest creature, although we are extremely partial to the awesome Megasquid - the true Giant Land Squid.

There is more information at the Future is Wild website, where you can read more about these remarkable creatures. You can also download a desktop wallpaper image of the Megasquid:

Megasquid4m tall, weighing 8 tonnes, with tentacles that extend to 3m and rhino-like skin, the megasquid is a formidable creature. It roams the northern forests of the planet 200 million years hence. All eight of its arms have become legs and look like thick columns, each are a 1/3 of a metre in diameter.
