I can’t wait for this one to reach our screens. Squidbillies is a new animated TV series that sounds a tad weird, but certainly seems worth a look.

Here is the blurb on the show from TV.com:

Five million years ago, the Atlantic Ocean covered North America all the way to the Ohio Valley. As the ocean receded to form our present-day geography, a family of squids was stranded in a remote setting in the North Georgia mountains. This motley melange of mischievous mollusks, influenced by the rural ways of the redneck locals, quickly “adapticise” to a world of fighting, feuding and fornicating with a Faulknerian flambé of ferocious sea creature livin’. The humor lies in the “adapticization.”

The best information I’ve found on the show so far, other than the official website which has some promo clips, is this review:

An unholy cross between the Clampetts and Spongebob Squarepants, the Squidbillies are a family of inbred hillbilly squids who rip creation a new one as they drink, curse, brawl and offend everyone in tentacle’s reach. But it’s not all cockfights and trucker hats, there’s also familial love, familial hate, and a deep-seated mistrust of authority that brings the Squidbillies together. Created by two of the guys behind Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Brak Show, this asinine comedy is a perfect companion to Adult Swim’s line-up. Although the animation isn’t as clean as the rest of the time slot’s late-night hits, it’s clear the creators know their audience well enough to supply them with the perfect complement to four-foot bong hits and Taco Bell leftovers.
