The Life Aquatic
Squidblog recently went to see “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou“. Having seen some previews for the film, with some kooky sea creature animations, we hoped for some sort of squid action in the film. Unfortunately there was none (although there was a cool looking octopus), though there was this excellent poster from one of Zissou’s previous adventures (screencap from here):
Hopefully we’ll have better luck with our next film outing, or we might just have to resort to video.

and Aliens From The Deep has some good cephalopod action, and tons and tons of manic teeming shrimp.

It never fails to irk me how much of the cephalopodic mindshare is dominated by the lowly octopus. You’ll find a ton of octopus jewelry and toys…but squids are rare, few, and far between. I blame the more complicated shape and extra couple of arms…
